Purpose

The Ann Arbor Kennel Club was formed to serve the needs of the purebred dog community in Washtenaw County, Michigan, and to further the advancement of all American Kennel Club purebred dogs. The club's goal is to protect and advance the interests of dog shows and obedience trials and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at such events. While the major undertaking of the AAKC consists of the back-to-back dog shows and rally and obedience trials held in July of each year, the organization is also extremely active in service to the purebred dog owning community. The club offers weekly conformation classes as well as annual canine good citizen tests and a sanctioned puppy match. However, the Ann Arbor Kennel Club is perhaps best known for its breeder directory, which is not only featured on this site, but is distributed to all veterinary practices in the state of Michigan, and is available to all canine training centers, grooming shops, pet supply stores and pet care facilities that request a copy as well. The AAKC is also in partnership with the Michigan Association of Purebred Dogs (MAPD) in the fight against anti-breeding and breed specific legislation.
